From Sand

Beginning in 2012 and shot mostly across Egypt, Qatar and the UAE, ‘From Sand’ looks at the unprecedented development of an enriched Middle East. A region where global capital has recently taken hold, and its reverberations are dramatic and visible.

The region has transformed itself in a matter of decades into a ready-made arena for global finance and cultural showcasing. An unprecedented streamlined urbanisation and social shift to immediately put itself on the map.

The photographs follow the progress from vast resource hungry construction projects, workers exposed in the hard light and blank surroundings, through extravagant architecture, to opulent cities and the people who maintain and occupy them.
