The Call

A call – something to listen out for, to be alert to – suggests some kind of presence or divine power, mysterious forces operating from somewhere beyond, intervening in our temporal domain, signalling us towards paths lesser known. Hidden powers rising up from dark depths, shining down from bright heights, calling us away from our worldly living and initiating us into the mysteries of life. Making our way through foreign lands, encountering perils and wonders alike, not knowing where our path leads, discerning only that we move towards something vital.

Much like the stories of old, The Call seems to tell the story of an outer adventure. No sooner, however, have we entered into this narrative than have the lines between reality and fantasy begun to blur. Our vision obscured, what at first seemed to belong to the outer now speaks to the inner, and we begin to question whether this depicted journey into the strange and the unseen in the world is not in fact a journey into the strange and the unseen within ourselves.
