When I became a mother, I realized that I had not only made room in my body during my pregnancy; I noticed that I continued to do so when I held her my daughter in my arms, soothed her cries, and tended to her during challenging nights. For a moment, I felt drained, dried out; mothering felt immense.
A year later, I returned to visit the land where I grew up, and there I reconnected with the green of the Caribbean jungle and the humidity of the tropical forest. Recognizing how much I´ve giving, being able to surrender to the embrace of the landscape.
I created these images to remember this woman who was able to open enough space within herself, becoming cloud, water, earth, garden—soft, full of water, sensitive to the small, capable of understanding the unnamable.
“What was dreamed in the mountain’s humidity, the mountain that rains fresh water and bathes in saltwater.”
