The project "The Düssel" focuses on a small river that lends its name to a major city. The Düssel runs through the city, branching into various arms and is enclosed by an urban landscape of streets and buildings. Yet, even in this highly structured city, there are places of dreaming where wild nature preserves its own freedom and unfolds according to its own laws, independent of our aesthetic notions of beauty and order. These are precisely the places that the artist seeks out.

Ira Vinokurova's photographs of the Düssel bring to life the mystical world of the river spirit Undine. In her carefully crafted black and white shots, she creates an image of the river that oscillates between beauty and darkness.

Similar to Impressionism, the true essence of the subject emerges through the play of light. The artist employs analog photographic techniques in the darkroom to visually capture the atmosphere of the location in an impressive manner.
